Is it possible to adopt a Haitian child at the moment?
My family has been looking into adoption for a while and when the earthquake in Haiti happened my mom finally decided to try to go through the process to help a Haitian child that lost their parents or are in dire need. I read on another website that because of the severity of the issue that they currently aren’t accepting new adoption applications. I can understand this, but does anyone know if they will open those lines any time soon? Surely, there are hundreds of people that are willing to help in this way. Thank you!

I understand that it’s cheaper by the dozen. Would you trust anyone in Haiti to minitor the situation?
Probably not but it is possible to adopt a child in America right now who is also destitute or has lost parents. Its not as chic and with the moment but climb out of the television and think about adopting a child in American. There are thousands of wortwhile needy black and white children in America who are also in need. And you would not have to take them from their culture and extended family ties….but then you would not be all Angelina Jolie like so I would say get with it before there is another media event to get caught up in.
The current problem is that there is no one to process the paperwork…There is virtually NO GOVERNMENT in Haiti right now….several families in our area were in the process prior to the quake, and now the process has ground to a halt. They ‘found’ the child they were working to get several days after the quake, but the paperwork is being log jammed…
No.Adoptions were halted in Haiti about 2 years ago, although that might change after this disaster.
Why not adopt orphans in your own country – I’m sure there are plenty in need of loving parents…

My understanding is that there were 380,000 chidren without parents in Haiti BEFORE the earthquake. It should be closer to 500,000 now and that is in a country with only 9 million people. They will have to do something. All adoptions that were being procesed have had their records destroyed and many people in charge were either killed or are also homeless out on the streets.
It is going to be a long process but something has to be done with those kids.
